Not much technological innovation due to reliance on old legacy systems

Pros

Depending on who you interact and network with, you can rise up the ranks within 2-3 years within a position. I've seen several external hires move from lower to middle management in a relatively short time.

Cons

Turnover for offshore and contract IT resources is quite high, so knowledge transfer does not occur with any sustainable frequency. Documentation is rare. The wheel gets reinvented quite often due to misdirection of resources.
