Wiley is incredibly disorganized and inefficient. There are no streamlined processes or procedures, especially among divisions, and there is constant miscommunication (or a lack of communication), because those who have the power to make business decisions are ill-equipped to do so. They have been at Wiley far too long and do not have any sort of grasp on the "big picture" when it comes to digital content production. Management is extremely top heavy, yet the groups who actually produce are emaciated (having endured numerous reorganizations). Promotions are political and based solely on who you know, not based on merit or experience. One of the most recent realignments affected global operations/inventory and resulted in the promotion of someone who is notorious for being completely unresponsive and unprofessional; however, she has been at Wiley for decades and knows the "right people." This single move sent shock waves through the division, as it truly represents Wiley's misguided track toward inevitable self-destruction. It will undoubtedly result in a loss of TRUE TALENT, as people are now scrambling to update their resumes and jump ship before the company finally tanks. It is appalling and painful to witness. I have worked for several publishers and have never, ever experienced the politically-driven bureaucracy and chaos that permeates Wiley, nor have I experienced such incredibly low morale.
