"The Place to Leave."

Pros

The colleagues. Great benefits. Plenty of time off.

Cons

Management routinely ignored the advice and counsel of the staff. Upper management created far too many middle management positions. Managers across the business were far too busy looking out for themselves. Managers that abused their power were never reprimanded. HR gave lip-service to staff complaints about treatment by managers. Executive staff had no idea how to run a non-fiction publishing house in 2015. Far too many staff left because of the way they were treated. Wiley turned from "The Place to Be" into "The Place to Leave."

Pros

Not that long ago, Wiley was an outstanding company to work for. It used to be transparent, employee-focused, and guided by a clear and compelling mission. With luck and a change in attitude and engagement by the leadership, it will be that once again.

Cons

The company is in major turmoil. Despite two years of analysis by consulting firms and a much-vaunted plan to remake the company for the new era in publishing, there seems to be no clear vision. After dismantling teams and processes and imposing untested new procedures in many areas at once, the leadership now seems to have abandoned those employees who remain to somehow make things work.

Pros

good pto, flexible work environment

Cons

there is a constant need to reorganize and the most recent is the most disturbing one yet. If the mission is to drive employees away and irritate customers, then well done. Despite all the talk about DEI, this is a company full of white men. Despite all the talk of the humanity of treating employees, this last reorganization shows a company that clearly doesn't understand or care about the employees. Companies have been acquired only to discover after the fact that mistakes were made and divestitures must happen. The people in charge of the core sector of the business have a major lack of understanding of the marketplace. Every word that comes out of management's mouth is a lot of nonsense and cheerleading without substance.

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your experience at Wiley. We appreciate your feedback and the positive aspects you highlighted, such as good PTO and a flexible work environment. We understand that change can be challenging, and we acknowledge that it may have caused uncertainty and frustration among employees, even those not directly impacted. Our CEO recently shared that we are focused on simplifying our organization and that we will lean into our strength as a global "Knowledge Company". This simplification unfortunately requires tough business decisions. Acquisitions and divestitures are complex processes, and we acknowledge that mistakes can happen. Our goal is to learn from these experiences and make informed decisions for the benefit of the company and its employees. Our intention is always to consider the well-being of our employees and ensure they are set up for success. We value you as an employee, and we thank you for your contributions. We are committed to creating a positive work environment and your feedback is crucial to this process. Your voice and experience matter to us. We encourage you to reach out to share your ideas with your manager or your People Business Partner to help us improve and we can address directly.
