Pros

The company is stable and continues to have good reputation for our products.

Cons

Through so many changes in the last couple of years with restructuring and management it is nearly impossible to do anything. HR is biggest problem starting with their head. HR is bloated and not accountable- no workflow and no one owns anything. Communication is in control of a few so all announcements are HR related. Management appears more silo than ever each with their own agenda. So many new people at the top so no opportunities for long timers. Just feel like they’re switching out all old people with all new and we’re just waiting for our time to be up. Very sad as it was once a family atmosphere and there were great relationships including with our authors and partners.

Periods of change are often difficult to navigate and can sometimes affect even the simplest of processes, which is why accountability is so important. It is our firm belief that everyone at Wiley should feel empowered to participate in those changes while also feeling valued and respected for the work they do. Thanks for taking the time to write a review.

Pros

Benefits are good, work/life balance is OK in the sense that you tend to leave at 5:15

Cons

A general culture of fear and blame has created a nasty and negative work environment, where you are constantly watched over your shoulder to see if you make a mistake which could be used against you. No desire for progress or positive change, as middle management have been in the job for 15+ years and any change would reduce their knowledge of systems and processes. A culture very much stuck in the 80s & 90s (systems stuck there too!), which will put off anyone who is not of the same ilk. Very cliquey in the Bognor office in particular, which has resulted in mismanagement, high turnover of staff at certain levels and a lack of communication with the other offices (perceived to be the enemy)

Pros

Good benefits, but certainly not as good as they were 10 years ago. Generous PTO if you qualify for it.

Cons

Company restructuring has been ongoing for four years and, unfortunately, the company has been torn apart by it. Employee morale is at an all time low. Most current employees cannot even remember what the core values used to be or exactly when they were abandoned by high level management. Cost cutting prevails. Lay-offs continue at an in-ending pace. Knowledgeable and dedicated employees at all levels are long gone. Morale is at an all time low and distrust, fear, and micro-management prevails. The publishing industry has changed greatly, but Wiley clearly had no concept of how to adjust to the new marketplace.
