Pros

The people, at most levels, are wonderful. Benefits tend to be very good. Flexible with work-life balance.

Cons

They've forgotten their sense of community and the value of their people. I've been with Wiley 10+ years and it's a very different business (I understand it's a different time and a rapidly changing business environment but it shouldn't affect how you treat your people). They're laying off entire departments and outsourcing valuable roles.

Good colleagues, but hard work isn't recognised

Pros

I was allowed to change my hours slightly to suit my personal needs. Some really great colleagues, who have become friends outside of work too.

Cons

Worked way above my level for two years, being told I'm doing all the right things and it never leading to anything... applied for a job internally and jumped two levels by moving. Lots of egos which are being rewarded with promotions, leaving those who quietly do a good job behind. "Manager's discretion" for EVERYTHING is great if you've got a good manager, but not for those who don't. Lots of inconsistencies in management and fairness.

Great products - messed up culture.

Pros

The Mpls division of Wiley has built great products that help organizations work better. They do a good job of treating their distributors/customers well.

Cons

Unfortunately the management team doesn't seem to be able to practice what they preach. The GM often belittles and intimidates anyone who dares to have a different opinion than his own. Tears and therapy are not at all uncommon for those who work for him.
