Buddy system prevails

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

Benefits package, generous time off, nice office and location

Cons

If you are buddies with senior leadership you will go far at Wiley. Your level of experience, knowledge, effectiveness hardly matter. Leadership will ensure that their buddies are always secure, shuffling them around with new opportunities. Honesty is gone at Wiley. It used to be a great place to work until the bro culture took over.

Pros

Wiley offers incredible work-life balance and an unheard of amount (5 weeks+) of PTO for US colleagues. The health insurance isn't bad, the retirement match is great and there are tons of fringe benefits that come with being a relatively inclusive company (IVF for example). Additionally, most colleagues are friendly and if you must go into Hoboken HQ, the office is beautiful.

Cons

Wiley suffers from being a great place to work in that many people stay for decades, never having been employed elsewhere and unaware of the multitude of changes that faster-moving and innovative companies are making. Processes are outdated, bureaucracy runs a mile deep for even small changes and many senior leaders do not know the first thing about the line of work they are managing (as they have never worked anywhere else or they've been brought in by someone who hasn't). Sometimes that can be okay because they have great leadership acumen and listen to those below them; sometimes that can mean that you are explaining frustrating basics to those above you ad nauseam for months to no avail.
