Working at the World Bank comes with several advantages, as seen by reviews on Glassdoor. These include the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on global poverty and development, a diverse and international work environment that exposes employees to different perspectives and approaches, access to career development opportunities and resources, competitive compensation and benefits, and a commitment to work-life balance through flexible work arrangements and generous leave policies. Overall, employees report a rewarding and fulfilling experience at the World Bank.

Cons

Some potential downsides to working at the World Bank include bureaucracy, a demanding workload, limited career advancement opportunities, job security concerns, and challenges maintaining work-life balance. As reported on Glassdoor, the organization's ambitious mission can make it a high-stress environment, and its structure can make it difficult to implement new ideas quickly or advance to higher-level positions. While the World Bank offers competitive benefits and career development opportunities, prospective employees should weigh these potential cons before applying.

Pros

Interesting work. Motivated and knowledgeable colleagues. Important projects.

Cons

Employment as a consultant is fragile and susceptible to termination in two years. Worse for STCs. Always have a plan B. The Bank considers consultants expendable.

Pros

I found the work carried out in the World Bank very interesting and the fact that it has a real and positive impact on people's lives is challenging and encouraging at the same time. The working climate is very good.

Cons

As a short term consultant I did not have a 'stable' contract. Specifically, I had to renew the contract for each new project and sell my working hours to different managers. This diverted much of my efforts to looking for my own jobs within the bank and was very time consuming.
