Pros

1. Really great engineers to work with 2. Flexible work environment 3. Decent pay but no real upside anymore with this company

Cons

1. The parent company execs including the COO of Whirlpool are completely tone deaf to Silicon Valley culture and the intangibles associated with running a company like Yummly. Think stereotypical old-boys-club, corp ladder climbers who think that people are just assembly line workers that can be swapped in and out. It may work for building your basic washing machine, but not for a company like Yummly. 2. For the last several years we are thrown distracting projects to no end. Teammates had to work nearly a year to integrate Yummly into a failing connected oven by Whirlpool. Not only was the technology stack on Whirlpool's side a disaster, several of my peers provided feedback to let them know that well in advance. The Whirlpool execs politely told us to "stay in our lane and not get distracted". Let's just say that the entire Whirlpool team is gone, nearly nobody uses the connected ovens, and we wasted countless time on this project and others. I believe this is one of the reasons why our CTO left the company. He was bitterly frustrated as he truly was an advocate for myself and others as he attempted to provide feedback with no response. Our CEO did his best, but also maybe saw the good in people at Whirlpool that wasn't there. 3. They have destroyed the culture they made Yummly special. They have abruptly replaced a beloved and accomplished CEO with mid level executioners from the parent company to "fix things" with no credible explanation, reasoning, or transition plan. That was a mistake and was definitely a political move. 3. They have distorted the facts and have destroyed trust in the the team. They made many drastic changes based on politics and bitter back channeling from a former parent company employee (turned Yummly COO who has left the company) . This has been confirmed by several people on the management team. 4. They have made even loyal employees like myself want to go elsewhere. We were a company of values, culture, and innovation. The values have been disregarded, the culture destroyed, and we now have the person they put in charge (from Whirlpool) who is more concerned about how many reports he has over the well-being of the team. We recently lost someone leading our Data Management team (who was the epitome of excellence) because this replacement leader didn’t understand what she did (fyi. Data Management isn't the same thing as Data Science, Data Analytics, or Data Engineering), put her under a hands off "manager" and disregarded her suggestions to make the company better. 5. I’m done lying to the people we are recruiting about Yummly, and much like most people at Yummly, I have my foot out the door. I used to be a big advocate and voice for joining Yummly. That time has passed. We just lost our Talent Acquisition person for the same reason. She was done lying too.
