Pros

Compensation! The pay here is better here than most retail jobs. In addition, and depending on which store you work at, you also get a percentage of what the store makes, a nice perk called store commission. Trust me when I tell you this looks really nice on a paycheck, and more so when you think about the lack of pressure devoid and which usually come from its opposite, that being personal sales commission. It may vary from department, but from what I've experienced, there is a certain amount of freedom that is enjoyed here that is rarely found anywhere else. This is primarily because of the close relationship between the managers and the employees: no red tape/bureaucratic bs/ hr hoola hoop dance. In few words, the proximity of the relationship between managers and employees allows for occasionally leniency and understanding so few people in the retail industry are otherwise afforded, especially at a store like Zara. Zara looks great on a resume, whether you're experience there was good or otherwise. It's not Gucci or Barneys, but it's also not Walmart or HM. Zara is as high as you can go in the retail chain without the preoccupations that come with a high luxury brand, i.e. dictatorial management, surreal expectations to meet sales goals. Zara is the kind of place to start if you're looking to work at Jonh Varvatos, Burbbery, Neiman Marcus, or any of the two aforementioned brands.

Cons

Little to no room for growth A distinct lack of consideration for employees, whether it be to use the restroom or the way in which management frequently maligns its hard working employees. work-life balance, though this is applicable to almost any job in retail. Some more than others,....

Pros

- If you're applying at a new store it's extremely easy to get a promotion - Uniform is free - Nice Clothes - Commission is shared among the entire department, which encourages you to work as a team. - Before opening there's a morning meeting everyday, they're pretty fun and good for store morale.

Cons

- awful discount (15%) - training was a disorganized mess, zara is really strict when it comes to their policies. i missed the store opening and began work roughly 2 weeks after, half the staff still had no idea what they were doing. - compared to other stores i've worked at their cash register system in general is more complicated than it needs to be. - there is no clocking in machine, you have to sign in by hand on a piece of paper. this highly increases the chances of there being mistakes on your paycheck - a lot is expected from you and most of the time it's simply impossible to complete. It really does depend on the location you're at though, the store I trained at was much better.

Pros

Good opportunity to meet and work with different types of people. Decent work-life balance. Hours can be long but there is the assurance oh having minimum 2 days off per week since working on weekends is a strong possibility.

Cons

Difficult for those incumbents to climb up promotion ladder. Internal politics is tiring at times. The outlet managers tend to be nicer to temporary workers since temps don't work for long and will eventually be customers after the contract ends. More responsibilities and blame tend to be placed on permanent staff. Favoritism from bosses and colleagues if you are an extrovert (Regardless temporary or permanent position). The "outcasts" tend to be given the undesirable roles. Especially heavy workload during seasonal sales period.
