Pros

BP has some great strategic thinkers who will keep the business a competitive supermajor for a long time. In general, it makes good decisions on a global scale, and has some of the best technology in the industry. It allows for flexible work hours and it truly does try to provide for a balance between personal and work life.

Cons

There are the management elites, and then there are the grunts. Shoving long-time employees into cubicles where there is not enough space to effectively work was just plain stupid. The company spends a huge amount of effort on "Diversity and Inclusion", which is fine if you think the work environment has anything to do with "coming out of the closet", but everybody except the white male is celebrated. It gets old.

Pros

Great flexibility and opportunities to expand your career path. Compensation appears fair to date. Some other SPU's and BU's are moving ahead well!

Cons

Unfortunately, the performance unit (ILS) I am in now has been "right-sizing" (as it should) for the last few years and continues to do so. Like the direction we are going, but taking too much time to get there. The pain in doing it slow is killing morale. Also, sales incentive pay plan changes in recent years have been ill-advised and created big problems. Historic poor leadership at PU level has created a big whole to climb out of.

Pros

Staff is pretty relaxed if you work in NAG i thought. People are friendly. Before the oil price change lots of lunch and learns and therefore free lunches. I think it is easy to go and do something that is not asked for by the maneger and its ok. You do get lots of training, and I think it is the best in the industry. In the good times when oil was at a good price it was easy to travel with relatively few questions asked. Lots of knowlageble people work here and it is easy to go and ask for help.

Cons

Lots of politics. Very hard to get anything done especially in deep water. Everyone wants to raise their oppinions. During rig calls I counted more then 40 ppl in the room for almost an hour. This is probably why the company is not doing so efficient. The staff is not being utialized correctly and mangement is failing to see that. All the manegment is so engrosed in "the way things are done" that they forget what is really important and it is to make money. Lots of debating for hours sometimes with no real goal. Very frustrating if you need to get something doen quick.
