Pros

A) Excellent pay and benefits. B) Experience gained working with field operations was invaluable, second to none.

Cons

1) Weak mid-level management. Company standards inconsistently enforced and often bypassed in many areas. 2) Target fixation on short-term profitability, at the expense of long-term viability. 3) Excessive cronyism. 4) Most of my team has found other employment.

Pros

Great pay! Great resources! Good people and nice culture overall. Very diverse workforce with people from various backgrounds and countries of origin.

Cons

Too many gates to getting things done. A lot of inefficiencies as people that have nothing to do with your job are given opportunities to weigh in on things that don't concern them; a big strain on ones autonomy. Too much office politics. With ultimate leadership seated in the U.K. various leaders in the U.S. use that to their advantage to control information. Many times making themselves look good while not necessarily giving an accurate account of those at their peer level or lower. Progression in the org seemed to be more about who you know more so than what you know and contribute.

Pros

In the oil and gas industry you receive better pay than many opportunities which is also the case at BP. There are still a number of quality people to work with at BP.

Cons

Management is by and large incompetent (starting at the very top and trickling down to those who have to interact with the lowly plebes who actually do work) and reached their lofty positions by delivering good sales pitches as opposed to producing quality results, showing sound leadership, and having any form of business acumen. This is taken out on individual contributors who suffer the consequences of the downturn. Individual contributors who achieve and those who are recognized for achievement are not significantly overlapping in a Venn Diagram.
