I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Cengage (Farmington Hills, MI) in Aug 2010
Interview
Process began with a phone interview, then was put on hold pending a corporate reorganization. Weeks later, received request for on-site interview. Flew up same day for interview with 6 or 7 senior-level officials (this was a senior position). Learned during the course of the interviews (at lunch, no less!) that the position for which I was interviewing was actually one level higher, and that the person to whom I'd be reporting (in the initial construct) was leaving. After that day (and what a day!), never heard back from them.

Interview
I applied online and was contacted by HR within a week. HR coordinated phone meetings with 2 executives with whom I would be working directly. HR was extremely professional and set up the interviews for the following week. The first phone interview was with the executive who would be my boss. It lasted about 1 hour of which 45 minutes consisted of a series of nonstop questions, mostly pertaining to my behavior and personality (& mostly in the negative). For example, name a past professional mistake and what would you do differently. What is a criticism you have received? How do you motivate yourself to do something you don't want to do? The first interviewer also gave me a "heads up" that the exec I would be interviewing with the next day would be "pitching me" a different job in her dept.
The next day's interview lasted about 40 minutes with an exec who couldn't have been lovelier or more professional. The style was more conversational than the first interview and the actual job was explained in greater detail and in more realistic terms. I knew at that point the position I was interviewing for was not the right fit and said so. Based on the 1st interviewer's tip, I asked about the other position that the 2nd interviewer was supposedly going to "pitch" to me. The second interviewer politely told me to apply online. It was at that moment that I realized that the first interviewer played me. Perhaps it was a test of my behavior.
