I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Penguin Random House in Sep 2021
Interview
Pre-recorded online interview for the first stage, felt very impersonal and pointless - very standard questions were asked. They included ‘bloopers’ to show that not even the current company employees were comfortable with the online interview process, but it felt disingenuous and forced. It did not give you any idea about the company culture.

Interview
I got contacted about taking a skills assessment for the position about a week after I applied to the job. The skills test gave me 72 hours to write a report on a 30 pg book proposal and dust jacket copy for a 250 pg novel manuscript. About a week and a half after that, I did an HR screen and then an interview with each of the two editors I would be working with. The last step after that was a reference check. The whole process took about a month total.

Question 1
Why did you apply to this job (and these specific imprints)? What types of books do you like to read? How would you manage working on multiple short-term at long-term projects at the same time?
The first round is getting past the machine. Then, a blind assessment, and then an HR Interview. The overall process can take weeks and sometimes you can be left hanging.
