I applied online. I interviewed at Penguin Random House (New York, NY) in Jan 2021
Interview
I applied online to the Berkley imprint, heard back about a month later for the first screening interview, which was 30min with HR. Interview questions were straight forward:
Why do you want to work in publishing?
Why publicity?
As a publicity assistant, you make pitch letters and press releases. Give an example of a time you similarly had to write/communicate persuasive materials.
Why should we hire you / what distinguishes you?
What do you know about our imprint/ our catalogue? What do you like about our books?
Tell me more about -this part of your resume-
Highly recommend doing your research - mention specific books from the catalogue/books that will be coming out soon. Always relate your relevant experiences and why they helped prepare you for this position. Emphasize that you love working with books/are passionate.

The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Penguin Random House
Interview
The interview experience was refreshingly straightforward, current with the times, and overall very positive. Although I did not receive an offer, the manager seemed very honest, transparent, and quick to answer any questions.
