I applied online. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Shopify in Feb 2019
Interview
Initially applied a year before the actual interview. The company overestimated how many people it could take on, invited many to interviews, and then dropped us with no communication as to why.
The interview process starts with an online questionnaire that focuses on you as a person, rather than pure technical ability. Pass that and you'll be invited to a Skype interview to talk about your "life story", and go into a bit more detail about the job. After that comes the Gauntlet, where they'll take you through a series of mock interactions to simulate a couple of hours in the life of a Shopify Employee.
Good in theory, but it sugar coats the reality of how stressful this job is, and how much technical know-how it requires.

Question 1
Talk about a time you messed up and it impacted someone else.
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Shopify (Calgary, AB) in Oct 2019
Interview
The entire process took 3 months. This is because Shopify has to hire gurus according to how demand there is (merchants). So if you're looking to apply, just keep in mind your application could be paused like mine was or it takes a little longer then normal.
It started off by recording answers and submitting them with an app. You just talk about yourself, your accomplishments and what drives you. You get 2 chances to record and if you stuff it up, you have to submit it. My cat jumped up and started cuddling the camera and I had to submit that!
Next, you have an email to respond too if you get passed the video interview. After that, Squad Lead ( oversees Gurus aka your oversight) will call you and interview you. This takes 30 mins. They want to know about you, your previous job roles. This will determine if they offer you a gauntlet interview. Once you get an invite to the gauntlet, I can't stress enough to make your own Shopify site. I made two and looked up their Shopify Help Centre. Also, bookmark this for your gauntlet as you'll need it. One tip is to ask your merchant lots of questions so this gives you time to look up answers. Buy yourself time but investing in the merchants.
Your gauntlet will take 1-2 hours. It's all timed. They have two live chats going at the same time, with questions you won't necessarily know without training or knowing the platform really well.
You'll move onto a live phone call which will be 10 minutes.
Lastly, you will have 15 minutes to answer an email.
It's a really stressful interview but stay positive, have Shopify Help centre up and google. It wouldn't hurt to make your own site and get in touch with gurus so you know how to answer the phone or get some hints.

Question 1
Hey there, I’m just starting to package and fulfill my very first bundle of orders - Sooo excited! However, I would like to add a label or something that lists all the products I have included in the box for the customer. Can you help with that?
Hi...I keep facing delays with wanting to open my store and it’s becoming tiring. I wanted to launch today but a colleague of mine just told me I should work on my SEO before I open. I have no idea what SEO is or how to even do it!
Hi Shopify,
I just started a trial store, and I’m looking to sell my music on my site. Does Shopify let me sell digital products? I’m aiming for an Ed Sheeran meets Planxty George Brabazon feel, and am really excited to get started!
helllllllp I’m lost
Thank you
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Jul 2019
Interview
First, they make you fill out a personal questionnaire, which has questions that seem like they'd be a great company to work for. After that, you have a phone call. If you're not technologically advanced, DO NOT apply for this job. They have all these apps and widgets that are almost impossible to navigate and they expect you to know. THEN, you have a Gauntlet Interview which is the most ridiculous thing I have ever done. I spent almost 7 hours creating a website and figuring out the website to prepare for the interview and they STILL asked questions that there is absolutely NO way i would know unless I was properly trained for the role. If you applied at Mcdonalds, would you want your interview to be you placed in the kitchen for an hour with no training in the middle of lunch rush? NO! I left the interview feeling SO discouraged.
