I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Shopify (Toronto, ON)
Interview
I was interviewed for an internal Recruiter position. I have over 5 years of experience working with high-growth technology companies and never have I had such a terrible interview. The interviewer was an internal recruiter who's been there for 4 months and had ZERO recruitment experience before this. He was a musical sales manager prior to his role! When recruiting for senior manager or senior-level roles, you need to have recruiters who actually know what they're doing and who have the level of experience needed to ensure QUALITY CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE.
The interview seemed unprofessional. The interviewer turned his camera half-way through the interview because he 'had to take notes'. This is such a strange this to say during a screening call and shows zero interest in the candidate experience. It screams, I'm just screening these qualifying questions and then moving on.
Shopify's interviewing needs a serious change. They're growing too quickly and their candidate experience is dropping. I declined to move forward after this experience because this is not the culture nor the type of recruiting I support.

Why are you a good fit here?

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Feb 2021
Interview
apply online, first video call interview, I was told to get feedback in a week or so about the next steps and they never come back to me with an answer, even after sending an email 3 weeks later asking for an update, they just simply ghosting me, really disappointing that a company like this takes candidate experience so poorly, really disappointing "Life Story interview" as they call it

Question 1
background, current responsibilities and motivations to join
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Jan 2021
Interview
1. The interviewer was late. Being 3 minutes late for a 15-minute interview is 20% of the time allocated for it.
2. At the end of the interview I was asked, "By the way, how do I pronounce your name?". That just added to the general disappointment.
3. I know the interviewer (who was filling in for the person who was originally supposed to interview me) didn't look at my resume as when I was explaining how my current skills would translate to the new role, I was asked what my current role was.
4. The interviewer kept looking at the keyboard/desk which created an awkward environment and showed that she couldn't care less.
