Pros

Good stepping stone to get in to the industry. Some CPR trained employees. Fridge to store food in.

Cons

- Management and PR pretend it is the best studio publicly and on social media. Internally they don't care about their employees. - Management pretend there's no crunch, when the crunching is consistent. They set such absurd time constraints on tasks and pressure artists that "you aren't required to do overtime if you don't want to - but this needs to be finished by tomorrow" - Absurd time logging requirements. You have to log your time spent on anything down to the minute. Helping other people, getting a drink, using the bathroom, taking a break to stretch your legs, all needs to be logged. - When you first arrive at the studio you will be smothered with promises of career opportunities and promises to help you become a better artist. However these are later used against you to push on your insecurities and continuous gaslighting to make you feel grateful you even have a job there. - Upper management known to be very creepy/overly flirtatious with female employees (do not work here if you are a woman). - Upper management will only praise an artist if it makes them look good in the process or fits a current public agenda (women in games). - Management call the artists "ungrateful" when the team raise their concerns about the atmosphere and how they want it to improve. - Gaslighting is rife throughout the team from management. Artists are told they aren't good enough, that they can't meet these (unreasonable) time frames for their tasks. Promised work on a project they like once they finish their current work, to then see the work given to someone else once they finish their task. - Private information said in confidence to managers has been told to other employees in order to create some kind of trust between those people and management. - Blame is squarely placed on the artists when something goes wrong, even if the issue has been raised by said artists previously which management has either downplayed or flat out ignored.

Do not work here

Business Outlook

Pros

- gets you into industry - work on big games - lower level employees are lovely

Cons

- Women should not work here... - Company is almost all juniors - Everyone is applying for other jobs - Insanely high staff turnover - No formal training for newcomers - almost no documentation to learn from, have to continuously ask others but they are too busy to answer, or have to work unpaid overtime to make up for the time they spent helping you - Juniors 'train' newer juniors - Women have to go through HR to get fair promotions - Management always unavailable - Internal tools are outdated - no documentation for promotions, inconsistent promotions - Management doesn't listen to suggestions on improvements - Upper management doesn't listen to qualified artists - Management and PR pretends they don't have crunch, but artists crunch as there are not enough artists to cover the projects. - Artists do unpaid overtime to 'cover' the projects. Future bids and timeframes based on only the 'paid time' - resulting in consistent crunching. - Unrealistically low timeframes compared to rest of industry. Constant stress. - Strict logging of breaks and helping others. - Place is a factory. - Experienced people should not work here - Location isn't ideal but no remote options - It traps you with no life outside the studio

Pros

- It's a great place for students to start and get into the industry - Some people genuinely care about you

Cons

- The people that really want to make it better are getting exhausted and keep on leaving - Low standards when it comes to hiring - Struggling to hire seniors and to keep them - Majority of the employees are junior - So many projects coming in with no one to actually go on it - The majority of groom artist want to do character art which leads to toxic behavior - Crunch seems to be a regular thing and depending on the project that can be a lot of extra time. - The benefits aren't great, talk about private health insurance has been going around for a year with still no result - Extremely high turn over rate - A lot of people are burned out, they don't seem to care and are telling us we have to just get on with work - Blame is regularly placed on the artists when something goes wrong even when its not our fault - You hop on and off projects so quickly that you barely have time to learn what to do - So many people unhappy and it makes it really hard to enjoy work

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We take all feedback onboard to help us improve and provide an overall better experience for our employees. Our overtime policy states that any additional time worked is compensated for and requires prior approval, with consideration for the necessity of completing extra hours and the wellbeing of the employee, and we do not, and never have had a ‘crunch culture.’ We absolutely do care about our employees and wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do here at Airship, so we are saddened to hear that your experience wasn’t in line with how we want our employees to feel when they are a member of our crew. We appreciate your feedback. Best wishes, Airship Interactive.
