Pros

An opportunity to expand your own contact base for professional growth outside this company.

Cons

Expect several cons if you work in the company's Asian office. Expect a salary below market value with extra long hours daily if you were born local and joining a non-managerial role. The new editorial management is prone to doubling/ tripling your workload after you join without any reason. They may also abruptly decide to change your role without prior notice and without your approval - without compensation. There is no clear advancement path in this company. Incapable people with close management relations get the promotion most of the time. The annual increment is only double digit in local currency from your second year of service. People get blacklisted from promotions for no good reason. The annual 'peer review' is one-sided (only your direct boss rates you and you get no chance of returning an evaluation). Too many employees are prone to pushing responsibility to others. If you are new, you are a target. Do not expect any training. Some teams appear competitive among themselves with an unwillingness to share knowledge. Some editors themselves are cluess about basic market knowledge. Think thrice before entering a firm like this.

Pros

For the majority of the time, Argus provided an excellent work/life balance, good career opportunities and strong support from immediate line managers to coach and develop talent. This was an excellent environment to show initiative, learn new skills, be given the opportunity to put them into practice and be recognised for it. Line managers also actively encouraged and valued new ideas and opinions, creating a working environment that was collaborative, productive and satisfying on both a professional and personal level.

Cons

A disappointing senior hire quickly demoralised and destroyed a successful department within a few short months. Established talent that had previously been invested in by the company left very quickly, leaving a significant skills, knowledge and capacity deficit. A toxic working environment ensued where people were no longer valued and opinions no longer welcomed. Weak leadership combined with severe staff shortages resulted in unmanageable workloads and extreme pressure on a few individuals to cover for the shortcomings of senior management.

Thank you for your comments. To ensure that the company continues to grow and operates as a truly global business, we needed to complete a reorganisation of our marketing team. This is the right decision for the company. However, we acknowledge that reorganisations bring a number of challenges and are rarely a smooth process; we regret that some of our colleagues have decided not to continue with their career journeys at Argus. We are actively working to establish a strong and collaborative team of marketing specialists who can take forward our vision for the function and deliver exceptional results. We are committed to our investment in that team and to maintaining the Argus culture.

Pros

Company seems quite good aside from the cons

Cons

Working in data sucks because that means you work under Vlasios. You won't enjoy working under him unless you're a fan of very shouty, aggressive phone calls. Or a fan of ridiculously short timelines, and constantly moving goalposts. Or a fan of a manager who thinks he has the data science knowledge to micro manage a DS team but (shock) doesn't! Everyone who joins is looking to leave within 6 months. If he leaves, might be a fun place to with 👍
