Pros

Bayer has accumulated great people from all over the CPG/OTC industry and put them together in one place. The culture is supportive and one can almost always assume positive intent. Great pains are taken to ensure continued employee growth and development. Random firings or layoffs are unimaginable, and the comapny reorganizations take place less frequently than at competitors and with less attrition.

Cons

The great culture and low turnover allow the company to underpay vs other consumer pharma and make it more difficult to advance. Many departments are top-heavy. The company is slow to get rid of employees who are on the wrong bus, despite how obvious it may be to those around them.

Pros

Bayer use to be very people oriented. The maternity benefits use to be the best in the country and written as the best place for women to work by Fortune 500. The awards program and bonuses at Bayer are great. Recognition for work above and beyond is common. Promotions were available as well as making lateral moves. Career opportunities were made available. Benefits were also very good at the start. Employee morale use to be very good. Was a great place to work at least until the acquisition. People were treated with fairness and respect. I thought it would be the best place to retire.

Cons

The acquisition has been very difficult. Employee morale went down once sites began to close and people started to get laid off. Was very stressful and unhappy environment to work. The benefits started to be reduced, especially the maternity benefits.

Pros

On a professional level there are lots of technically strong people to learn from--a very collaborative work environment for the most part. Very action oriented and data driven.

Cons

The company has been pushing it's STAR objectives, which they seem to have difficulty implementing successfully. Why? The most difficulty seems to be in "being decisive". At times we are paralyzed by the fear of making a poor decision. I have found this to be true more in QA than on the Operations side.
