Pros

On the job experience. The opportunities to learn multiple sides of the commercial real estate business are endless. The company also provides learning opportunities like certification and accreditation programs that are excellent. The resources offered to employees are also extensive, mostly geared toward brokers, but usable by all.

Cons

Fortune 500 attitude and treatment toward most employees. What I'm speaking of is a culture problem. If you don't like the way CB does business don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. There is no consideration for differences of opinion, even if it might increase productivity, efficiency, revenue, etc. Seniority is all that matters (Seniority trumps ALL, and that includes Incompetence !!!)

Pros

The benefits and the perks are amazing but the salaries are on the cheap side.

Cons

Very poor communication, extreme favoritism and politics verses competency and strong work ethic, and poor management decisions especially with budget and employee motivation and encouragement. New policies and procedures are announced in monthly meetings after they have long taken effect. This, more often than not, creates duplicate work to meet the new requirements pushing us two steps back instead of forward. Along with company politics and favoritism, employees work ethic and encouragement begin to suffer. They are recognized by their superiors (brokers) but if you are not one of the chosen ones, you stop trying so hard because you realize you will never be the one in line for the promotion. It does not matter how amazing you are, because your superiors don't have the final say. Upper management already hooked up their buddies long before a position was ever available or created one themselves.

Pros

The financial rewards are there, but so are the risks. As with any sales organization, you are basically getting just a shell... a phone, a slow computer, and some pens (if you are nice). It's up to you and the people you know to get the most out of it. That said, you can do well there.

Cons

Longer hours, somewhat cutthroat. They penny pinch in every corner possible. It's a bit of a ponzi scheme, as i guess many of these places are, where the old guy takes the big cut while the younger guy (or girl) does the work. Tale as old as time.
