      Great until blindside layoff

      - Great work-life balance - Paid holidays and wellness week at end of year

      Cons

      - Lots/too much of Red Tape to get problems through to higher ups and solutions approved - Low career ceiling - Was told they were 'downsizing my team' after working for them for 8 years and after having my last child, before Christmas. All this after very successful past few years of growth/sales for the company.

      Increasingly profit driven with some great people and ideals

      Pros

      Cengage has values that are excellent and a history of putting them into practice, including respect and doing what's right for employees and customers. Team dynamics are very positive and the product is also worthwhile. I was well motivated by both to do my best work.

      Cons

      Cengage has recently (summer of 2023) committed to an aggressive cost-cutting campaign in order to improve its profit margin from excellent to amazing. This focus on profit margin has begun to undermine the company's social values.

      Things are changing here

      Pros

      Interesting work and people. Lots of opportunity to share and bond with coworkers. Good products, forward looking leadership. A true desire to be a profitable, relevant, and healthy company.

      Cons

      Culture is becoming a little more secretive. Not as much communication from the ET. Using "initiative" and "change" and "project" language to soften what is really meant (layoffs). I think most of us knew this was corporate speak when it started a few months ago, but it's still sad to see.
