Where do I begin?! I went in to the role as a salesperson, yet after two months there I still hadn't had a chance to sell anything. They wanted me to do client servicing to begin with, which was boring at best.
After being there for several weeks, I was asked to fill out a form regarding personal details (address, medical details, etc). I am an epileptic, and am naturally open about this. Within days of filling the form in, stating that I have epilepsy, I was called in to a meeting with my manager and someone from "HR" where I was fired. The reason they gave me was that they didn't feel it was working out, despite the fact that I hadn't even begun the sales side of the role yet.
Evidently they felt that my epilepsy might somehow correlate to lower sales figures than they would want. I came very close to bringing in an employment lawyer to confront them about their disgraceful conduct, but it just wasn't worth the hassle.
To sum up, senior management (particularly senior management in HR) have a lot to answer for. They're a complete disgrace. Avoid these people at all costs.
If you want to go into Sales, I would recommend Financial Sales or Broking. Much more interesting products with a much higher commission structure.
