A Seniority based system where the least competent and capable among employees have a better shot at moving up in the company, than the best and the brightest. This location is non union (which is a good thing in my opinion.) However, they cling to the one fundamental basis by which union based companies run into the ground. SENIORITY! This business location is one of the very few left in the U.S.A. where someone with neither a base level of physical or intellectual ability can move up the ranks to a supervisory position, ahead of someone with a good educational background and a solid work ethic. This results in a bureaucratic monolith where mediocrity is the rule and not the exception. In my experience, the best and brightest folks are shuffled around like hot potatoes, while a political system based on "it's not my problem" rules the day. As a result, it's not at all unusual to see (especially on first shift) 30% of all employees standing idle, while another 15% either quit out of frustration, or get fired because they are perceived as a threat by supervisors or associate supervisors. Many....MANY people in positions of responsibility at this location have the intellectual ability of a 14 year old child.
