Pros

The perks at Farfetch are amazing! Even working in CS, we got 30% off most if not all FF items, 50% on Browns Fashion (excl. bottega, ysl, and others who were 30%). There is a $50/month wellness pay which means they pay for you to do something like get a manicure, go to the gym, etc. You get your bday off (you can choose any day within that 1 week period ish), there is health care and dental after 3 months, and a gift card after 3 months). The training is the best part and the trainer is 10/10 - their whole vibe is great when you start together with lots of other people (from it to top management it was great!). They do lots of team bonding and there is alcohol served in their offices on some fridays, sometimes there’s free lunch (I would say it was maybe 2 x month?) and they have an amazing location.

Cons

Micromanagement is insane here. Your whole day is laid out (which is okay) but changes from day to day. You never get the same hours as before and your 10-minute breaks are planned. If you have to step away from your desk for a minute you have to send an emoji in the slack to let people know, you get points based on how often you answer the phone/your efficiency - not how well you treat customers. Have an accommodation you need? You’ll likely be waiting on approval for a long time and you won’t get anything accommodated in the meantime. If you don’t adhere to your schedule and plan for the day 100% perfect - be prepared to explain that to your supervisor and the adherence management team.

Pros

- Work-life balance. 30 day-offs per year, no deadlines, boomerang program, and so on. - Friendly atmosphere - Chance to work with people from different big companies - New Relic, Microsoft, Datadog, etc

Cons

- Compensation is low compared to other remote opportunities. - Management. A lot of not qualified middle management was promoted during company growth. - Not working atmosphere. I have seen people just chatting for months and just promising they will deliver something and in the end just switch to something else with the intention that everyone will just forget. - Promotions are done based on years of working inside the company, not based on Performance and feedback. - If you are looking for an international company - it's not about Farfetch. The engineering office is mostly Portuguese-Brazilian. Be prepared to adapt to that culture.

Pros

The people, benefits, shares, and internal open source model. Seem to genuinely care about employees.

Cons

Snail pace, constant miscommunication, low talent bar, and favoritism. Getting promoted is bragging to the right ppl (your manager) and having a lead that will fight for you, 360 reviews actually don’t matter at all. 90% of frontend work is making very small changes for AB tests, backend work makes very small changes for the frontend. Testing and deploying your work is a nightmare, deployment has recently improved but testing will not for a long time (people have been complaining for years). Too much custom tooling that is soon after abandoned. If you want a low-stress environment, cool people, and don’t care about career advancement or skill improvement, that’s perfectly okay and I believe Farfetch would be a good fit for you. If you care about growth in your craft, career advancement, being surrounded by very skilled people, and being a bit challenged by your job, Farfetch is not for you. The habituation to slow-paced, unchallenging work is real and I’ve seen too many people get stuck waiting for their vesting period to end.
