You get to work with a specialist subject you are passionate about.

Cons

Management view employees as assets and are happy to see them worked into the ground, as long as magazines go to print on time. There is no respect for experience or ability, only what difference the staff make to the bottom line. Truly awful. Management does not share the workforce's passion for their subjects, leading to some incredibly bad decisions at the top level. It's no wonder their titles are in rapid decline. Having now sold of many titles (including profitable ones, for some reason!), Future are in their death throes. Avoid.

Pros

Continually being challenged, new problems to solve every month, lots of freedom to engineer solutions to those problems without micro-management or oppressive oversight.

Cons

Dragged backwards by legacy infrastructure / process, constant effort by Engineering team to tread water in terms of system upgrades and consolidation. Roughly 18 months and one complete restructure into a process of streamlining, and still quite a way off completion. Morale outside the technology department not great due to round after round of redundancies.
