Pros

If you're lucky, you make long-term friends -- Misery loves company, after all. Happy hours. Once you've earned your stripes you can cruise at work. Metro benefit. Unlimited PTO.

Cons

Where to even start? Basically everything is a con. There is absolutely no redeeming reason why anyone should work with the SmartBrief team at Future, and there is nothing Future can do to change that, unfortunately. The whole team is being carried by a measly number of competent, smart people who just need to leave and/or have left. Everyone else is literally incompetent with no brain cells, selfish, and offensive. These people refer their friends to work here, so you just have more incompetent people in one place. What's more, the offensive, racist people not only don't get reprimanded, they actually get promoted! Clearly, promotion is not based on merit. The pay is a joke. There is no room for negotiation either. Everyone micro-manages. No one is professional. You end up learning *way* too much about people because they can't shut their loud mouths up. It gets so bad you forget you're at a work and not high school. There is no recognition, no professional development. Performance reviews are a joke. You can't move up unless you suck up. "Moving up" also is just more of the same work. You don't learn anything new and you're not able to expand your skill set to be marketable. The turnover is so high that if you are here for more than a year you stop remembering people's names because you simply can't keep up. It's true SmartBrief is under Future leadership now, but the same people who made SmartBrief problematic still works there, so it will still be problematic, no matter what.

Overworked and Underpaid

Pros

They were flexible during the pandemic

Cons

Extremely fast paced, below market pay, extremely long working hours, no support from management. The company is only focused on their bottom line, and rarely recognise or promote staff. Always an acquisition going on, so you never know if your role is safe, or if you are going to be put through the redundancy process again.

Not a great place to work

Pros

There are some really smart, kind, fun people working here. There's a lot of younger employees, who help make the work atmosphere more fun and lively. The benefits are okay. The unlimited PTO is especially nice. There's always a lot of changes happening, so it's never boring and it does keep you on your toes.

Cons

With the amount of change going on, the work level is often chaotic and your work life balance will start to disappear. Medical and dental insurance is really expensive. While the unlimited vacation time is nice, the amount of time you take off is micromanaged by managers. If management doesn't like you, there's very little opportunity for upward mobility. The executive level management made a big show of supporting BIPOC last summer and asked employees for suggestions on how to address diversity and equity issues. Employees submitted a lot of great suggestions, and the company has acted on very few, if any, of those suggestions. There's also not a lot of diversity amongst the employees, and I have not heard of any efforts that are being made to address that issue. I have overheard multiple instances of body shaming and fat phobic conversations in the office. If those types of conversations would be triggering for you, I would certainly advise against working here.

Thank you for taking some time out to provide your feedback and thoughts about working at Future. You are right that Future people are pretty great! Change is probably one of only constants here at Future - As the media world transforms it's so important we stay ahead of the curve and we pride ourselves on being agile, responding to the market at rapid pace. This does mean it can get pretty hectic at times - it's why we have our unlimited PTO to make sure you take time to recharge when you need. We're really committed to investing in our people and ensuring that you have everything you need to keep being fantastic. But we aren't always great at communicating all the good stuff we have been doing. We're actively looking to move the dial on diversity - did you know we set up an Inclusion & Diversity forum and have a number of active affinity groups- it sounds like you want to be more active, so why not take a look on Slack to find out more about how you can get involved. And whilst we don't have a HR representative in each of our offices, our People & Culture team are open and approachable so don't hesitate to drop them a line if you need something.
