Pros

Free lunch once a month

Cons

Management do not listen or respect your advice You're sold a work life balance, but when you start they put the handcuffs on and you are very rarely allowed to work from home. Management take no accountability and abuse the work/life balance system. Very little structure or direction Management seem very incompetent when it comes to technology and the digital market. No room or opportunity for learning and growth They will overwork you and underpay you

I have been sitting on my couch for hours after reading this trying to find these handcuffs you are talking about. I thought about going into the office today, because it’s Taco Tuesday and my office gets a little silly with the shop down the way, but it was really cold outside this morning so I’m sat here working instead. No one is “just a number” here. Do you know how hard it would be to message anyone on Slack if I had to look up numbers instead of names? What a nightmare that would be. Anyway, I sure hope it’s warmer out tomorrow, my office is getting together for drinks after work, and the company is paying! How cool is that?

Pros

- Content creation and editorial teams are great, they are passionate about what they do. - Development departments are also passionate about what they do.

Cons

- Very little internal support from Human Resources. - Developers are burnt out too quickly and take on too many projects. - No communication between departments, causing major delays in projects. - Upper management has switched over to a singular cost-of-living adjusted raises, demoralizing the more ambitious members of the company. - While unlimited PTO and Work from Home Policies were available, employees were discouraged from using them in order to achieve to the best of their ability.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of Future plc. We truly value your feedback as it enables us to enhance and evolve. One of our core values is “it’s the people in the boat that matter”, and this is reflected through the internal initiatives we’ve introduced, such as our uncapped holiday policy and our annual profit pool. These are in place to reward our amazing people and to enable a good work/life balance. Our People & Culture team is dedicated to supporting our staff and will always endeavor to get back to you within 24 hours of your communication. We are also looking to recruit more talent into both our P&C and tech teams to ensure we support the business as required. Future is a highly ambitious company and one of our strategic goals will always be to grow. But we also value the incredible people who have made our success possible and want to ensure that everyone’s experience at Future is positive. This is why we’ve hired a new Head of Learning & Development and are exploring new ways to support and develop our staff. If you have any further suggestions for how we can enhance this experience, please reach out to us on peopleandculture@futurenet.com

Pros

I worked at NewBay Media prior to the acquisition last year. – I had some great colleagues with a strong sense of rapport. – There were plenty of opportunities for early-stage career growth. – Staff were afforded a great deal of freedom, which generated plenty of opportunities to assume a high degree of responsibility and take ownership of their brands. – Although they were overstretched, upper managers clearly cared about their teams, and there was an evident desire to meet the expectations of staff. – The liberal work-from-home policy allowed staff to engage in the "deep work" required to meet the requirements of their roles. – Great work/life balance for (organised) staff.

Cons

– The relatively flat structure and low staff turnover among upper management meant there were few opportunities for growth past a certain point. – At the time, there was a shortage of resources for brand growth, and manpower was insufficient. Paradoxically, however – by virtue of the advertising funding model – there was constant pressure to show that audience engagement was rising, or at least not falling. – Financial investment in career development for staff was rare. – Ground-level employees were given no agency in some aspects of decision-making that would have benefitted from their input, and upper management often did not take into account the industry-specific issues impacting the directions publications should have taken. – At the time, team morale was at an all-time low, and there was a persistent threat to job security. – Almost no benefits, e.g. healthcare, dental, bonuses.
