Pros

Friendly, hard-working staff Staff shop Annual conference Established, globally recognised brand Many chances to be promoted - this is due to high turnover however

Cons

Poor culture & high turnover - when leadership asked what they were doing to address this, their answer was "we have implemented a HR policy around this" Lack of leadership - most of senior leadership have left in past two years - draw your own conclusions why - as a result, lack of direction from leadership team on tough decisions Short-term focus by leadership to chase unrealistic targets. This has lead to under-resourcing at the expense of brand equity and employee happiness caused by crippling workloads Poor work/life balance in many teams due to employees leaving and this being absorbed as a 'saving' instead of the position being filled Technology is caught in the past decade - needs to catch up

Culture of bullying and belittlement

Pros

If a permanent GSK employee, amazing company to work for. Salary and perks amazing, as is occupational health support etc. Training provision is excellent as is training courses such as NEBOSH etc for personal development.

Cons

Agency staff treated appallingly, if you want to progess within GSK it seems to help if you have that ability to belittle and bully the employees. Rife throughout with certain members of the SLT and even above site level staff responsible for Primary operations. Certain people promise you the world on commencement of employment and then sit and revel when a role you have to perform after little or no training fails to generate the desired outcome. Worse is the fact that these people know how to arrive at the desired result, but make themselves appear to be too busy to offer guidance and support. Leaving you with the feeling failure and incompetence! Plenty of coasters onsite who are simply waiting on the proverbial golden egg hatching as they hit the magical retirement age. These people stifle the change process and merely place unnecessary obstacles in your path, coupled with weak line management who continue to endorse this continual type of behaviour. Once you annoy one SLT member the chances of ever getting back on to the site are remote, similar for any other site due to the malicious falsehoods that are communicated to other hiring managers.

Pros

I have worked at the company for 3 years and the best thing about the job is the people that I work with on a daily basis. I work with a lot of great people who are smart and talented. There appears to be opportunity for development and movement into other roles. There is pretty good work/life balance.

Cons

Boy's club atmosphere (at least in my department), and difficult to get promoted if you don't have a PhD or a chemical engineering degree. Upper management is dysfunctional and some are completely out of touch with how the work actually gets done. Communication and teamwork between departments needs improvement. I feel that the company has gotten too big to be efficient.
