Pros

Work/life balance is on point, which is critical when you are paid well under the local average for your position.

Cons

Uncertainty reigns and has ever since IHS merged with Markit. Any sort of human development is pure smoke and mirrors. Promotions have been halted for the last 18 months. Rumor is that might change in 6 more months, but the merged company has fallen short of every single employee focused initiative that it has put in motion so far, so no one is holding their breath. The office operates like an assembly line. Creativity seems to have slowed to a crawl, and any meaningful innovation happens behind closed doors in front of a small audience.

Pros

Flexible work culture. Work life balance is good. But depending on your team, you might end up leaving work dissatisfied and unhappy. this company has gone from good, to bad to worst. As they acquired an equal company in March 2016, there is going to be a wave of layoffs. The current CEO of IHS is going to retire by end of this year and Markit CEO is going to step in, which can result in wash out of most of current managers and teams. So I suggest not to join IHS until at least these storms have subsided. The layoffs were announced to go well into next year, 2017.

Cons

Middle management is worst. Upper management change is constant, percolating downwards with constant lay offs and people shuffling across teams. Management change is not basically a merit base or business centric, it is more on who has more power in upper management and whom he likes to have in his team downwards. This meaning, most undeserving people becoming your managers. As this company grows with acquisitions, there is a constant short of money for compensation. Benefits are slashed constantly and people don't get raise even when economy is doing better. For example, in 2015 and 2014, most of us didnt see any salary raise. Only a small percentage of bonus was handed. As a women, the IT and software department is sexist. There are many inefficient, racist and sexist managers who openly show their differences. Managers have low communication skills and management skills. Management of teams happens mostly on buddy system. If you are buddy with manager you are well off even if you are worst performer and possess worst attitude. Company does not encompass a good work culture. Team's culture is cultivated based on managers style. So if you are lucky, you end up working with good managers and good teams else you can be miserable, with latter being more common. Ubiquitous micro-management by scrum masters and managers with little control over your work. Agile development is a joke here. Most of the project managers turned scrum masters don't have right training to conduct agile. It is in a great mess. Communication is zero from middle management to teams. Teams and members are moved constantly to cover up management faulty decisions without notice. HR presence is completely missing. I have seen many people complaining about worst ethical behavior by few colleague's but nothing happens. At the end, good people leave the company or get laid off as they cannot get along with these bad elements that in turn encouraging bad work culture. In short, I don't recommend this company because of current Oil and gas price turmoil, poor work culture and equal acquisition resulting in massive layoffs.
