Pros
IHS has a great compensation package. You get 15 days of vacation and 8 days of PTO, from the start of their fiscal year in November. This is very flexible. They even have a pension plan that you are eligible for after 2yrs of employment. Co-workers are great people. They work hard and try to support you through all that you do. You received fairly positive support from upper management if you could get their attention. Receiving this would take considerably more time obtain than was necessary.
Cons
IHS is bewildered with middle management problems. From my lowest employee position, there were 5 managers to deal with prior to the CEO. Middle management is always talking about how change is constant, but from my 8 years with the company, I encountered change with middle management only occurred when someone else wanted another manager removed. To keep from firing managers, they just called it "change management". There are times when you want this to occur for growth reasons, and then there are times where this would occur regardless of how detrimental it was. The other major problem with the company is that they are a worldwide company with many different branches throughout the globe. They would never have any means of know how much work is duplicated across the company. Resources were hardly ever made available to allow collaboration among the teams. This means that the company would buy smaller companies and then you would never know anything about what they did or how they could help you. This caused integration problems. There were several hundred software projects within the company, with no telling how much cross over technology, but they could never decide on if they could integrate!
