Ambitious growing "tank" but risks broken down due to weakened "joints"
Pros
The company runs an integrated data, services and consulting business in key industry domains including energy, environment, engineering and security. It owns industry-known firms such as Jane's, CERA and J.S. Herold. Given the companies it owns and the scope the company is trying to grow, there can be wide range of opportunities to grow.
Cons
1. too much acquisition in the past, not enough integration 2. management care too much about financial performance and could care soft and long-term size of business such as personal / professional development, knowledge sharing, intellectual property building, etc. 3. organization structure too complicated to communicate and realize divisional synergies; parachuting external hires into senior executive positions make it even worse 4. there is an internal skepticism about executives over increasingly hierarchy and politics 5. in many occasions, too focused about short term financial performance at the sacrifice of long term business development
