A "Rocket Ship" with a Mission That Matters

Pros

The Mission: This is the #1 pro. The company is genuinely focused on democratizing publishing and finding hidden talent using a data-driven approach. It feels good to work for a company that is disrupting a traditional industry and giving a platform to authors who might otherwise be overlooked. Impact & Ownership: Because it's a fast-moving startup, you get to take on a ton of responsibility. You can see your work directly impact the products (Inkitt, Galatea, and CandyJar) and the company's bottom line. Smart Team: You're surrounded by incredibly smart, passionate, and driven people from all over the world. The culture is very ambitious and focused on high performance. Growth: The company is growing at an incredible pace (a true "rocket ship"). This creates a lot of opportunities for personal and professional development if you're willing to seize them. The multi-app strategy (Inkitt for discovery, Galatea for immersive monetization, and CandyJar for new formats) is innovative and exciting.

Cons

As a high-growth startup, the pace is intense. It's not a relaxed 9-to-5. Processes are constantly being built and refined, which means you are frequently venturing outside your comfort zone. You have to be very adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity. Employees have autonomy and agency, which is liberating, but this also means each person is responsible for the outcomes of their work; there is no hiding. The flip side is the high velocity of learning and personal growth.

Pros

The paycheck arrives on time, and a few decent coworkers make the misery slightly easier to bear.

Cons

-Working here feels like being trapped in enemy territory where every move is watched and every mistake is weaponized. -Respect and honesty do not exist in this company. The leadership thrives on control, manipulation, and fear instead of teamwork. -The atmosphere is suffocating, filled with tension and distrust. People whisper to avoid being targeted, and meetings feel like ambushes rather than discussions. -Speaking up or sharing honest opinions is treated as an act of rebellion that gets punished immediately. -Management operates with pure deceit. Promises made during hiring vanish the second you start working. -Fair treatment is nonexistent, and transparency is a complete joke. Promotions, raises, and discipline are handled in secrecy and favoritism. -Certain individuals get away with anything, while others are publicly shamed for small mistakes. -Watching talented, hardworking people leave while unqualified, arrogant ones rise in infuriating. -The upper staff are a perfect blend of arrogance and ignorance. They talk about teamwork and innovation, but act like tyrants. -Feedback is crushed, and creativity dies under the weight of constant threats and retaliation. -The fear of becoming the next scapegoat keeps everyone silent and complaint. -Morale is shattered beyond repair because no effort, no matter how great, is ever recognized or rewarded. -The workplace feels less like a company and more like a prison for your spirit. -The stress never ends, and manipulation becomes so normal that you almost forget what fairness looks like. -Leaving is a relief but also a painful reminder of how much this place drains your confidence and dignity. If you value your self-respect and sanity, stay far away. No paycheck is worth enduring the cruelty and deceit that define this company.

Pros

-The team is incredibly driven, which fosters a strong, results-oriented culture. -The main customer demographic is women, which makes for interesting and impactful conversations about romance tropes and storytelling. -Great hybrid work environment. Flexibility is a big plus. -Lunch is provided - industry standard in SF. -There’s an opportunity to work with a wide range of people across different demographics, which keeps things fresh and fosters creativity. -Free access to Galatea books and Candyjar TV shows is a fun perk!

Cons

-Compensation starts below market for most roles. Raises seem to happen differently for every team. -In-office expectations have been ramping up, even as random employee perks are being cut, which sends mixed messages about priorities. -The company is weighted with middle management, which can sometimes slow decision-making or dilute accountability. -Marketing leadership lacks clarity, and because marketing impacts nearly every team, those unclear priorities ripple throughout the business, causing delays and confusion.
