- Performance Review (Calibration) incentivizes Individuality and competition hence many are focused on what they can get credit for rather than what is right to do for business. - Alot of accountability on individuals rather than leadership. - Environment induces anxiety and many people struggling with mental and physical health challenges as a result of atmosphere. - Culture of Optics and Politics increased over the years and those with competencies that can't present themselves well (often immigrants coming from humble cultures or ESLs) are often under appreciated. - More frantic directors and VPs worried about themselves, say yes to infeasible and impractical request from above. -Senior Manager and Director in my team focused on self advocacy during layoff and prioritized showing up well in calibration rather than pushing for fairness in process.

Unfortunately Meta has over-hired and laid off 11,ooo people. I've had four managers in 8 months. The work flow was so broken we resorted to using google docs/sheets most of the time. The clarity of how you accomplish things is often muddled and it causes everyone to have to re-create the wheel constantly. The performance review process was a disaster in so many ways, They have adjusted it going forward, but overall clear and concise feedback was like vapor, hard to capture anything constructive. It does seem that the sad reality is that the bottoms up culture just means you have to work harder, there's just that many more things that you have to carve out time for on an ongoing basis.
