Avoid if you can

Pros

It had great staff when you could keep them a nice team.

Cons

Micromanagement caused excellent clinicians, quality counsellors and SRs to leave the team. There was also too much office politics. Expectations are too high, especially for not having enough pay. Management would throw you under a bus and let callers abuse you. and if you terminated the call, You would get in trouble. Just went downhill overall with the change in management and too much meddling from Oxford and the states. Honestly, it's okay if you only need it for a few months, but if you can avoid them. It's not worth your mental health. Also, poor hiring impacts the staff, who often have to make calls from their and another counsellor's diaries. They talk a good game about protecting their staff, but it's just words. They tell you not to take calls after your time, but if you're not in an active take-call mode in the last 10 minutes, they throw it in your face at the end of the month, and if you ever work holidays for them, Yes they pay well, but anything happens management will throw you under a bus.

A lot of turmoil

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

There are a lot of good people there trying to do good work. The vision of the company is solid.

Cons

Too much turmoil and the culture is really suffering. They have had 2 major layoffs in the last 18 months, and several other times where budgets are cut and people as well. The company is in survival mode, and it shows in the decisions being made, and it is really hurting the day to day at every level. There are some good people in leadership, but there are a lot of very immature and inexperienced people too, and it shows.

Pros

Great team to work with and knowledgeable leadership, I can not say that for other teams Salary Decent benefit plan work/ life balance

Cons

One hand has no idea what the other is doing, not a lot of collaboration. Pay raises pretty much Null/Merit are based pretty much on immediate supervisor input. Bonus pay , pretty much trickle down to the people who actually complete the work, meaning nothing for the worker bees, all to upper management and management. The people that put out the fires, stay when not asked. These are the hard working people at Optum, yet often overlooked. Not sure how Optum has been as successful with all the chaos and miscommunication that occurs on a daily basis.
