Pros

The company is very sincere in their efforts to focus on employee health. Since the pandemic, there have been several randomly selected mental health days off given to the entire company. In addition, there are constant amusements, such as magic shows, Bingo happy hours, and meditation presentations. At one point, the company asked employees to submit presentations seeking donations for their favorite charities. In true showman fashion, the CEO revealed that every single request was approved. You get the impression that if the CEO wasn't in his line of work, he'd be an entertainer himself. The management also gives many opportunities for feedback to make sure they are aware of the issues that everyone in the company is having. This includes a yearly retreat where members of every department in every studio are put together to air their grievances and work on actionable solutions. The way the teams are built, often require work out of your area of expertise (for some, this might be a negative. However, I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about different aspects related to my work, and the company will also pay for training requests or classes that are required for the work that is needed). Company corners and quarterly planning sessions allow you to see the big picture so you are connected to the entire plan and goal, rather than just working on a bit that you don't understand. On top of that, they really just did an amazing job of putting together some great people. I really admire and get along with every single person there. Insurance is great and salary is high for the industry standard.

Cons

Sometimes the fixes to problems are slow-coming, and management is very set in their ways. It can be a very high pressure environment when there are many demands from various stakeholders that are all given the highest priority (however, in the past few months, a lot of these concerns are being alleviated with agile training programs and sessions that allow management to work directly with the devs to determine what is a realistic amount of work to expect in a given sprint). There are goal structures in place for learning new skills where you make a plan with your manager to build new things. However, very little emphasis is placed on this, and while we were initially told this would be tied to pay increases, it sort of fell by the wayside. In fact, there is no standard session where you can make a case for yourself for higher compensation.

Thank you for highlighting the things we have done to encourage mental well-being and improve employee morale. It has been a difficult year without our typical touch points and we have tried to find creative ways to help people feel connected and remain engaged. We are already planning ways to improve the quality of training offered over the next year to help our playMAKERS grow in their roles.

Pros

Extremely talented people make up the Playstudios teams. Everyone's opinion counts for something, and takes ownership of their work. The quality bar is high, and like any live software team, it can get stressful. But everyone is supportive and seekers of solutions. The executive team is all friendly, open to chats, and they run the company with a strong moral compass.

Cons

Working on a live mobile app with 300k+ daily active users means the rate of content production expected stays high. If a team member is out, deadlines can get tight.

Pros

Incredibly rare to find a company that promotes a positive working environment and an "open door policy" and actually follows-through with such claims. Never have I gone into work dreading walking through the doors or logging on. The positive and compassionate culture empowers me to want to work harder and learn. Everyone has the common goal to want to take it to the next level which makes it refreshing. From the top down it has always been communicated that if we want to understand or are interested in a different department, to just ask. This past year the entire company (no matter what department or role) was invited to be a part of Business Planning (beginning to end) for the upcoming year which shows transparency and communication this company firmly believes in. PLAYSTUDIOS gives me a sense of inclusion and I’m proud to call my coworkers, aka playMAKERS, my company family.

Cons

Due to the pandemic, working from home comes with its challenges and I'm looking forward to getting back to the office and working side by side with everyone.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences. We really do mean it when we say it's okay to speak up and talk to someone, anyone, with concerns. We welcome both positive and critical feedback from our playMAKERs, because you all make us better. We are definitely looking forward to throwing open our studio doors and welcoming everyone back.
