Pros

Learned a lot while at my time there Compensation was great Working with other junior employees was the most rewarding part of the job

Cons

Culture was horrible - no respect for junior employees Hours were the worst across the street easily. Consistently worked past 2AM every weekday. No use of FactSet for excel modelling and building powerpoints. Are you kidding me? RBC invest in this instead of trying to hire a new crop of analysts 6 months.

Pros

Flexible hours if you can't work 9 AM - 5 PM, M - F. Having said that, most of my colleagues dislike working evenings and weekends and if you work Tuesdays - Saturdays, you'll never get a three day long weekend and RBC will not make it up to you.

Cons

I've worked both in national office and the branch network. The branch network is terrible; our Branch Manager speaks to all of us like second class citizens. An elderly co-worker came in three minutes late one time (she was at diner next door waiting to begin her shift) and he berated her for coming in at 9:03 AM although she has a bad leg and limps, thus she was late. Then the Branch Manager proceeded to tell her to open up the branch since the Central Teller was sick although it's not her responsibility and he's asking a favour of her. Another time during a lunch and learn meeting, an Investment Advisor colleague came into the lunchroom and after he left the Branch Manager made the symbol L for "loser" with his hand above his forehead. I'm taken aback by his behaviour and am now looking to leave. RBC pushes Bank Tellers (renamed Client Advisors) to sell products to clients but employees do not receive extra income or a bonus for this. Finally, RBC has a new concept on the go, forcing employees to retail which means standing at the front of the branch and greeting clients. All my colleagues dislike this and we've been referred to as "Wal-Mart Greeters" by clients as it's boring and a waste of time standing around while we could be helping clients who are waiting in line.
