A very risky career move

Pros

Good work-life balance compaired to most companies in the IT sector these days. Nice office environments always in pretty good locations (but some country offices are out in the sticks including the belgian headquarters here in LaHulpe). High quality peers who genuinly want to perform their best and improve things. International team.

Cons

Senior management has lost the plot in regards to company direction. Company somewhat arrogant and refuses to see that SWIFT SWIFT is increasingly non-relevent beyond BIC directory and FIN service. Commercial side just cannot see this. Dated technology means you won't learn as many markatable IT skills. This will be a problem for peple leaving SWIFT. Increasingly downsizing operational staff such as IT and support to low-cost countries to save money at the expense of quality. Used to have a policy of FNAO (Failure Not an Option) but cost cutting means customer impacting screw ups are frequent and most definately a valid option to senior management. Power games and rank pulling becoming part of daily life. Lots of bad managers with no skills making decisions they aren't qualified to make who don't support their subordinates.

SWIFT 2.0 isn't an upgrade for seasoned employees

Pros

Focus on training; tuition reimbursement; if you are a young grad, you will get a lot of attention and encouragement and your career will grow quickly in the beginning. Benefits are still good comparatively (though much much less so than previously).

Cons

LEAN reduced workforce to point that there's more work than people to do it; they are pushing out older employees (50+); promotion process is unclear and it is flat - you go from 30 to 40 quickly, 40 to 50 takes longer, reaching 60 is almost impossible unless you are management. Your performance rating is done by committee before you meet with your manager.
