Pros

You get a paycheck..That's about it.

Cons

Where to start... This is a call churning job through and through. You are just a number on a spreadsheet to them. Metrics are unrealistic if you want to help the customer. This job is a big game of hot potato. Your goal is to get them off the phone and take another call. Because of the metrics most agents and departments are just trying to find a way to transfer the call so that they meet metrics and don't have to do anything. Tech support has turned into billing and sales. if you take 60 calls a day 50 of them are billing or sales calls. While managment will be quick to assure you that they will give pushback to other departments so that you can stay in your scope of support, the sad truth is that they will come back to you 5 min later and tell you do just do what the other department asks. Spineless leadership and a lack of a skilled workstaff has turned this into a a job that is best described as "Failure by design" The "Leads" that are assigned to help you just sit around and play on their phones and listen to music. The moment you need them they are gone or will just refer you to a help article and resume their playtime. Supervisors are constantly watching everyone for mistakes and a reason to write you up or fire you so that the other agents will tow the line and keep pumping out calls. When there is a sup escalation they will do everything they can to have you NOT transfer the call to them. If you eventually do have to give the call to a sup you get chastised and told that you need de-escalation training. with the HUGE turnover rate, we have resorted to hiring anyone that comes in the door even with no tech experience. This hiring practice has decimated any type of real support that the customer might need. Career advancment is a joke. Sups will tell you that you can make a career out of this only to find out that when they find a reason to write you up..you are no longer transfer eligible for another 6 months. That's 6 more months that they get out of you pumping out calls. This job is a soul crusher that should be avoided at all costs.

Pros

Decent pay and benefits, the free cable is nice but the cable services is awful. For a cable company, the DVR system is terrible, if it wasn't free I wouldn't pay for it. If you just looking for a stable job and not have to really worry about losing job, this place is for you. Health insurance is pretty good Retirement is pretty great surprisingly. Up to 6% match, if you put in 6%, they will give you another 3%. So 15% total yearly for retirement. 3 year vesting Work/life balance is good, at least in my department. We are not to work more than 40-45 hours a week.

Cons

Company lags behind competitors, management doesn't really use common sense, slow to change, more worried about a possible outage than actually doing what is necessary to make things better. Lack of communication between leadership and their employees. Behind in technology, doesn't use tools to their full potential. Old school when it comes to managing people, they expect you to work 8-5 with your lunch at noon unless you have approval to alter hours. Strict no work from home policy unless you have prior approval. They literally have people walk around the office to make sure you are at your cube, VP's actually check badge times...it's a joke. Business casual isn't that big deal to me, but at least let us wear jeans on fridays or something. Work culture is changing, and Charter lags behind, needs younger folks in leadership roles who understand what employees want/need. Generic job titles so hard to really compare to other companies for salary. I hear promotions are easy to obtain but I have yet to see anyone in my group get a promotion. Lacking in career development, have no real performance evaluation or goals set for the year. we basically just wing it. We are about 5 months into the year, and I have yet to have a meeting with my manager about goals for the year, no expectations are set for employees. It's a joke. talk to lots of people across the company and in different groups, everyone basically just says they are neither happy or unhappy when it comes to their job and company. To me that means you are unhappy, if you can't definitively say you enjoy your job or company then you are not happy. I think people are just comfortable with having a job and steady paycheck and don't want to go through hassle of looking elsewhere.

Pros

Co workers are great.

Cons

You must now accrue vacation. Accrue sick time but when you use it you run the risk of getting fired for missing 1 day. Everything changes day to day, policies are never the same. Favoritism is shown a lot. Company has no idea what they're doing. Poor communication between tech's and dispatchers, they pin us against each other. High churn rate. Terriblen10 hour shifts with non consecutive days off. Constantly hiring new people and not training them correctly. Use to have monthly meetings, now all updates, changes and or communications is done through email if you're lucky enough to actually receive the email. Written up with no warnings or trainings, fired with no warnings or trainings. Don't do anything wrong. It could be your last day of work. Went from letting us progress 5 steps to only 3 and continuously put progression and raises on hold so they are unattainable.
