Pros

Great benefits. free cable, internet, phone... 401k match, etc. seriously, the benefits are really quite good. Dress code has relaxed and while still somewhat business casual, you can now wear jeans. They are starting to encourage employees to more and more apply to other internal positions so there is more career growth for the employees. There is direction to unify and stop tool spread, while looking to use more modern technologies and drop outdated programs and tools. This is promising for any company that prides itself on its technology.

Cons

Charter is already starting to claw back on WFH. we only were allowed 2 days WFH, but they've updated it for 2022 to be 3 days "in office". take a sick day, PTO, or holiday? Now your WFH less that week or none. We also have to track every WFH day in our time tracking software and they are validating that with monitoring where you are logging into the work network. There is no trust here and they are treating us like children for a benefit that was already worse than most of the major competition in the area. Office culture is very vanilla, this is probably not a job where you are going to make a lot of friends and grow your social network outside of work. Lots of "not my problem", you'll need to complain loudly or find "your person" on key teams to get any blockers resolved. There are definitely some office politics at play, and recent re-orgs haven't all been handled very well. Some groups have leaders that are very obviously trying to build their empire. This is probably unavoidable at any large corporate company though. I would like to see more encouragement to give back to the open source community.

Both positive and negative

Pros

Positive - get a good manager who cares about you as a person and your success, otherwise, to other managers, you are just a number and not valued. Pay is good. Work can be challenging and interesting.

Cons

* Can be a very tough environment to work. * There is a LOT (a LOT) of turnover - not in just one area but in multiple areas. People leave, take their knowledge with them and go find better opportunity elsewhere. * Lack of good onboarding. * Lack of clear communication. * Some bosses are toxic and try to manage via negative comments and try to embarrass you in meetings with your colleagues. * Lot of reorganizations. People get moved around like pieces on a checker board. (This is bad if you finally find a good manager...you'll eventually get moved). * Need more true Agile development. "Agile-Fall" is their term for trying to mix the two methodologies together. That won't work. People who don't know Agile are going to be really confused. * The company and most/if not all departments are against working remotely. Some departments have a hybrid schedule but the days you work in office is CLOSELY monitored. close to being Micromanaged. If you want the freedom with your schedule - this company is not for you. If you have days planned to have the roof fixed -for example, you have to switch your work from home day to be the day they fix the roof....or take that day off. Doesn't sound bad but each day you work from the office, it is monitored. * Company needs to figure out how to keep people at the company and decrease the turnover. when there is constant turnover, it is hard to keep a team together with good dynamics. It is constantly changing when people keep leaving.

Exactly what you'd think

Business Outlook

Pros

-Have had very high turnover so more encouraged to promote within the last year -Decent health benefits + cable discount

Cons

-Pay is well below industry averages- those who left in great reshuffle made roughly 20K more -Old school mentality, just as you'd think it would be with a cable company. Limited flexibility, by the book raises, individuals with tenure aren't always qualified. -Poor culture, Sales can treat you like the enemy
