Pros

4 Free toys at Christmas.

Cons

Poor management from corporate office. We have had a revolving door of National Managers. Last one had no personality or management skills, but was buddies with his superiors. Was an absentee manager for a year, and then replaced by someone most likely plucked from a nearby cubicle. Constant pressure to sell product into stores with no incentive. We used to have incentive programs to earn extra money. Now they are offering the chance to win toys. Very cheap and humiliating way to motivate and incentivise employees. The worst part, is we just had our reviews, and were told that we would not see our merit increase until July, and that it would not be retroactive. What a joke! I'm glad this review is anonymous, because I am embarrassed to say I work for them.

Growing Pains

Pros

Spin Master's location right downtown Toronto and their commitment to staying there is a definite plus for them. The three founders of the company are still very much involved in the business and their involvement brings some excellent life, creativity and balance to an otherwise very cut throat environment. There are some inspired and creative people in the who truly do come up with some excellent toys.

Cons

Unfortunately Spin Master suffers from the duality of an inspiring and creative brand team at war with the numbers only Sales and Operations teams and the people that make up Spin Master are caught in the middle. The resulting pressure has removed any illusion of a work life balance where the expectations far outstrip both the CPG industry and the compensation.

Could be so much more

Pros

Regular Mon-Fri typical business hours and very little weekend work. If you are fulltime you get medical insurance and paid holidays. Product is neat and is always changing so it keeps it interesting. Company keeps acquiring new brands. Free toys offered during the holiday season.

Cons

Single basic tasks become long drawn out processes by senior retail operations management. This senior retail ops management has a big ego with little value and maturity. Performance KPI reviews are not based on performance, but on how obedient senior management feels you are. Senior management prefers managing perception and not doing what is best for the product in stores. To much pressure being pushed onto the retail merchandisers to sell. Stocking and merchandising should be priority not dts orders just so senior management can show the partners some numbers.
