Unprofessional, very unprofessional

Pros

Great team and mostly friendly colleagues.

Cons

The level of professionalism is disappointing, especially given the company’s scale. There also appears to be limited openness to change, which could be a factor in why competitors such as LEGO, Mattel, and Hasbro have achieved greater success.

Toxicity culture, institutionalised mindset, very hierarchical

Pros

Home time. Benefits are okay, senior leaders will lie through there teeth to tell you it's good, but very very average.

Cons

1) Toxicity culture. Classic case wherever you are located, everyone only knows how to manage up. Senior leaders know nothing about actual leadership. This place is a dictatorship that drives fear. 2) Most leaders have been promoted to where they are. This is a key weakness in there leadership style, extremely institutionalised and huge fear of change. 3) The founders have too much of a role. They are nothing but a nuisance to the board and the rest of the company. 4) Obsessed with the "Spinmaster way" despite no proper processes or specific way. It's just BS fluffy HR wording. 6) They love buying companies. Have completely failed to integrate any properly (for toys). Half the time they do not know what they are buying. The person who signed off the valuation of Melissa and Doug, im very surprised if they have a job. 7) no clear brand strategy in toys. Very operationally driven. E.g. sell as much tat as you possibly can. 8) I could write another 50 points very easily but I cannot be bothered to.

Teams are great but upper management is so out of touch

Pros

The people that I work with on a day-to-day basis were very nice and supportive. If I were just rating my team and department, it would be a 4/5 stars.

Cons

Upper management, specifically the C-suite, is very out of touch. They often hire their friends who are not qualified to lead teams and sometimes, don't actually have expertise in the department they're leading. They can't take criticism, and I've seen people around me get let go because they shared some constructive criticism or completely valid disagreements about the quality of work. And once you have a target on your back, they'll do anything to find a way to get rid of you (seen from others around me). Upper management seems to take this personally and can't separate their professional and personal demeanor. They will also use fear tactics to silence others if they have any criticisms as well. The company is also full of nepotism outside of upper management as well, often at the expense of qualified employees who already work there, just to replace them with some c-suite's nephew. Also, micro management was a huge issue where you often question how they have so much time to care about what an entry-level employee is doing. There's also no work-life balance, with many of the upper management expecting you to work the same hours as them (on weekends, overtime, etc.). The amount of unprofessionalism and inability to self-reflect is insane.
