Constantly seeking 'disruption' but only seems to disrupt itself, detrimentally.
Pros
The people are passionate, knowledgeable and friendly. The company has a huge presence in a fascinating and rapidly changing industry. There is a genuine desire to revolutionise agriculture for the better for all concerned. Many employees have been there for many years, which is good and bad. For the former it demonstrates deep down the organisation is capable of taking care of employees, and there is no shortage of experience and knowledge available.
Cons
Has seen very tough market conditions over the past few years resulting in an insatiable drive to cut costs, this will, if not already, hinder ability to pivot and exploit new opportunities. Whilst there is lots of talk of becoming leaders in digital ag, investment in the space is significantly lower than that of competitors, and moreover seems to focus on technologies that are already well established in many markets making the barrier to entry almost impossible to surmount, or at the very least, lessening the scalability of such investment or acquisition. Possible as a result of cost reducing focus, ability to execute anything successfully within the organisation is extremely challenging, there is some significant overhaul of internal processes required before the company can be anything like agile. Still retains too much focus on the strength of its products over competitors, however this strength has diminished significantly over recent years and therefore must seek an alternative market differentiator. In order to do this, the execution capabilities already mentioned must be addressed. Many people have been with the company for any years. This is good and bad, for the latter however, it seems to create a resistance to new ideas, approaches, and outside thinking. Yet a considerable amount is spent on consultants for the same insight, this can be frustrating.
