Pros

Coffeeshop for employees Free Lunch End-of-year Bonus (but that heavily relies on your direct manager) The genuinely nice coworkers

Cons

Where to start... - The marketing dept. is one of the most toxic places I have ever experienced, to the point that even other departments generally hate working with them. - There is a Korean website equivalent to glassdoor where the bad reviews for this company very quickly disappear. Hummm, I wonder how that happens? - They tell you one thing at the interview, then once you start the job you realize they heavily misguided you during the whole recruitment process. Examples: 1. As a non-Korean worker, you're told that Korean language proficiency would be a good asset, but it is not necessary. The first day you're there, people only talk to you in Korean (while telling you a lot of relevant and important information). The managers also bully you for not talking fluent Korean and treat you like a child instead of a freaking employee. 2. The job position they advertised has NOTHING to do with your actual tasks. You're basically a robot updating social media with the same sort of content over and over again, or translation some random documents. - Managers tell foreign employees whom to hang out with on breaks as if we're in the freaking kindergarten or something. This is an attempt to assimilate the "foreigners" instead of creating a healthy environment of integration. - Pressure either not to work overtime, or to work overtime whenever it fits them.

The Hogwart's publisher school for video game jobs

Pros

Many employees have learned their current job from scratch here at Webzen Dublin: Previously lawyers, English teachers, students in physics, literacy, economics... Those people became Community Managers, Game Support Specialists, Customer Supports, Social Media Managers, Team Leaders, Game Producers... Webzen teaches to those who have joined with a passion for video games and a desire to change a career path. This is the house for all juniors to become seniors and - thus- make the wish come true for hundreds of people. Lot of those "Webzen Hogwart students" are working in many famous companies (Ubisoft, Blizzard, Paypal, Facebook, Google...) at several level of hierarchy and all over the world. Rares are the place where without any experience (but always with a passion for game required) you can enter the video game industry.

Cons

Webzen Dublin is the spearhead of Webzen Korean Headquarters. Most of the critical decisions are taken by the Korean office and the two entities are quite different in their size and structure. It leads from time to time to miscommunication or misunderstanding of point of views but the hierarchy is working actively to alleviate those bottlenecks, opening windows of comprehension between all stakeholders. Like any other companies will/have known, Webzen Dublin had its full but also its first recession period of employment in 2016: As you can imagine, it has shaken the usual and everlasting good mood at that time and many people had to leave a company they have known and liked for many years.

Company better to be avoided

Pros

- Depending on your position you might have little to none supervision - Easy way to get some basic experience

Cons

- The Dublin office is not doing well. Revenue has been decreasing for years as shown in the public figures posted be Webzen. Last year alone revenue went down 48% - There is no team spirit or enjoyment in the work left, most people left loathe their work and are planning to leave. - All games are outdated. Even the new additions are years old and have failed in Korea before. Some of the titles are close to or over 10 years old. - Management has clear favorites that get involved in choice projects. - Benefits are near minimal. There is health insurance and the company takes part in a few government sponsored initiatives like cycle to work. - No sick pay. If you get sick you are not payed. You will loose out on pay until the government kicks in on the 7 days of your illness. - Micro management from your managers. Depending on your manager you might be check down to the minute. - Little to no career opportunities. Vacant management positions are frequently left open. Lower tier employees are expected to do the management work for free. - All big decisions are made by the Korean head office with little to no regard to the input from Dublin. - Salary is below industry average.
