Pros

Lots of independence, kind and smart coworkers, currently work remotely, benefits are decent for my needs.

Cons

Like all other corporations, Wiley and its leadership team have the type of greed they warned against in the Bible. INTERIM CEO Matt Kissner started his tenure with a base salary of $900,000 in 2023. Meanwhile, lower level employees have been taking on second jobs just to pay their bills. They will brag to your face about Wiley's financial success, then offer you a sub $40k salary. The workload each employee is assigned can be insane at times, and we are not fairly compensated for it. In addition, there is no feeling of job security. Constant restructuring; my department changes names, leadership teams, etc. multiple times per year. This, coupled with layoffs (and threats of further layoffs) leads to a high level of distrust and insecurity. If you make any attemps to get the leadership team to address these concerns, they will simply pretend they didn't see it.

Unstable, not worth it

Pros

A few great people still left, nice benefits and PTO

Cons

If you take a job here, be aware that you are extremely expendable and will never be able to trust that you will have a job next month. I've been laid off by this company twice. If they can get rid of your position, outsource it, or absorb it into another, they will do so without hesitation. They will lure you into believing the layoffs are pretty much over, and because you're such a great employee or because your work is bringing in revenue then you're safe! But trust me: your title, department, performance, and success DO NOT MATTER. I've watched layoffs happen to employees in every area and position and at every performance level--sales, HR, IT, creative, editorial, management, you-name-it. I've seen more loyal employees than I can count--some who had been at the company 20+ years--get let go at the drop of a hat. Many tried to hang on by their fingernails and take jobs in different areas so they could stay with the company, only to be laid off again. That's what happened to me. One friend I know had been laid off by Wiley three times in 12 years before she threw in the towel. Do NOT trust this place. If you accept a job here, let it be a temporary placeholder and keep looking elsewhere. Getting canned is not a question of if, but when.

Pros

Work from home. The work balance was usually good. Flexible schedule.

Cons

I credit Wiley for doing their best to combat discrimination and bullying. Unfortunately, it is the old guard holding the organization back (mentally). You can spot them from a mile away. People who have been at the organization for more than 7+ years have a certain way of working and you can't come in between that. If you try, you will find yourself in a world of trouble that comes in the form of discrimination and bullying. It is really bad.
