Pros

Having worked for the company from the very early stage to post-acquisition, I have seen the company evolve in product focus, business goals and culture. Through out my tenure, employee satisfaction has always been the #1 priority. You cannot choose to join a better community of professionals who have created the ideal environment to bring out the best in every individual. Pros of working here include: • High regard for employee satisfaction. From recruiting, to day 1, and all the way through your time with Yummly, bringing out the best in an employee is essential. • Strong desire, focus and process designed to hire A+ players • Product technology and ideas at the forefront of IoT/Smart Kitchen development • Excellent office design to foster collaboration, transparency and “thinking big” • Extensive diversity in gender, cultures, age, and professional experience • Foodies and non-foodies are welcome. You don’t need to know what a sous vide machine is to be a welcome part of this food community • Strong backing by a mature, successful parent company that knows how to manage without micro-managing. • Management team that wants to see everyone develop their career path. Starting with the CEO, this team is invested in seeing each person continue to grow. If you want to expand your role, take on a cross functional responsibility, or take a step up, this senior team will listen.

Cons

There's not a con to working here. There are always challenges to get ahead of: • The company is growing very quickly; The Executive, HR, and Facilities teams are focused on infrastructure expansion and maintaining excellent culture. • Transition time is now to bring on more sophisticated systems and even more employee development opportunities. Again, Execs and HR are making this a priority. • Brilliant ideas come fast to this team. Staying on track/limiting distractions/controlling scope is top of mind for Product and R&D execs.

Kind, transparent and welcoming

Pros

To state the obvious, it's really difficult to start a new job during a pandemic. But every step of the way (interview, first day through to present), Yummly has made the process as smooth as it can be. This is thanks in large part to the people, who I can count as among the most kind people I've every worked with. Leadership has made it very clear that the company's number one priority is our happiness, and that means both while working and not, which is certainly easily blurred with the pandemic moving our offices to our homes. It's a huge pro to have joined a company with values that they actually uphold... kindness, transparency, collaboration, flexibility. After 4 quick months, I can honestly state no cons about Yummly.

Cons

We are trying to do a lot, but I would not count this as a con, only a tricky thing to stay on top of. Leadership's awareness and communication of the strategy is on point, making it easy to trust and march towards the long-term vision.

Pros

For a company with at most 60-80 people at any given point in time, it is pretty cool what Yummly has achieved in terms of raw value-creation for its users attributable to the smart people and well-organized teams at Yummly. Armed with a clear vision, a unique user base and the right mindset, Yummly is geared for success and in the coming years capturing this value created. - Experience: You get a breadth and depth of experiences, working at a company young and agile you get to decide what you want to help out with. With Yummly being a young company you experience first hand what it takes to run a startup - from an engineering standpoint- Backend infrastructure, data pipelines, Machine Learning, engineering frontend applications, design principles - all fantastic experience. - Transparency & openness: Yummly has been transparent as to why certain decisions are made and been open about reasons behind making business decisions all while taking inputs from different folks. Pretty flat org structure. - Culture: Having only worked at Yummly remotely (thanks, covid) I can tell that the culture is strong, non-formal and open. It shines through to end users in the products coming out. - Immigration: Yummly was helpful with immigration things (H1B) and really knows how to take care of its employees whether it be immigration or assisting with relocation - Parent Company: Unique relationship with Whirlpool, the company that acquired Yummly; Yummly continues to have autonomy retaining its culture all while being a strategic acquisition for the Juggernaut that is Whirlpool. All the benefits of being a silicon valley startup without the cons.
