I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Shopify (Toronto, ON) in Mar 2019
Interview
Applied online with my CV and then answered some initial application questions. Heard back that my answers weren’t attached to my application so I resent them via email. Heard back and got scheduled for lifestory interview the following week, which was casual and went well. Followed up same day that I was chosen to move on to gauntlet which I scheduled for the next day. Gauntlet was stressful but a good indicator of how the job would be in real life. It consisted of two simultaneous live chats roleplaying real scenarios (one person who was upset, another who was just fine). Followed by a phone call. You receive feedback immediately after each section which was good. Followed up the following day for references. Once my references sent in their reference forms, I got the offer the following day. The process from application online to the initial interview was long because a lot of people applied apparently (2 months), but the initial interview to the offer call was about a week and a half. All in all, great experience. You really need to be a good fit for this position to succeed in the interview process. Be yourself, be honest, and hopefully you are personable.

Interview
An online application process, followed by a life story interview, then the gauntlet. The process all in all is challenging due to the fact that it is unique to Shopify. It is difficult to know what is expected of you and as you do not have a basis for comparison, you cannot gauge how you've done effectively. Luckily, in my case, there was no waiting around. I thought for sure I wouldn't make it past the first round (the life story), but I was invited to the gauntlet on the next working day. Following the gauntlet, I received feedback that I hadn't been successful within 24hrs. I have heard that communication can be poor with the talent acquisition team, mixed messages are sent, and delays can be long. This wasn't my experience, so it's possible that changes may have been made in this area. My experience with the team was positive and I would not be deterred from applying again in the future. The interview process can be hard work, especially prep for the gauntlet, but it seems like a fit for me so I will try again.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Jan 2019
Interview
I was contacted to book a lifestyle interview and it wasn't entirely clear that this interview would be online as there was no mention in the email so despite Shopify's website directing you where to go in certain cities be aware that it is most likely online and look for the link to the 'joining info' in the email invite. The interview itself was awesome and I was told immediately that I made it to the 'The Gauntlet'. I think where people do well in the interview is authenticity and a passion for this type of business. I have a background in coaching small businesses and I have used the platform as well as having my own store so I think that was a bonus but I think the real point of the interview is to see what degree of ease you have in making conversation.
