I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Feb 2016
Interview
First there was a 'personal' interview over Skype, just a chat with a hiring specialist. Was friendly and informal.
Then a technical interview was scheduled. Shopify call this the 'Gauntlet' and it lasted three hours. Tough, but fun. It's a role-play with a current Guru and they ask questions that you're likely to be asked by a customer. I found it tough, as I wasn't aware of many of the features of Shopify that I was being asked about.

Question 1
I was asked about my life and what brought me to apply for Shopify.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify
Interview
The recruiter interviewing me was very young and did not seem to have much experience. I did expect to have an interview that was different from the norm (based on research done before the interview) and it was pleasant enough. It was hard to connect with the recruiter as she was a bit awkward but still very nice.

Interview
I applied online to be a remote Guru. I filled out an online application, and part of the process involved creating an online Shopify store as well as submitting a resume. I was selected for an interview and had to book time with a Shopify employee. The earliest available time was a full week from the date I got the email.
The first interview was via Skype video chat. It appeared that I was selected based on my store, and I don't think the interviewer had reviewed my resume because we talked generally for awhile about my skills and experience, and my personal history. The guy was nice and was relatable.
I found out via email about a day or two later that I had been selected to do the "Gauntlet" which is the online test. The earliest available time to take the Gauntlet was also a full week from the date I got the email.
The Gauntlet itself was challenging and modelled real-world customer service questions. It composed of two chat answers over Skype, two phone calls over Skype, and a series of about 4 faux email inquiries from clients.
I thought I did fine in the Gauntlet, and had a lot of customer service experience but overall I was not selected to be a Guru. I asked for feedback, but they said they simply had better candidates with more experience. Makes me wonder if they had some ex-call centre superstars, and if I should have been pre-screened out before sinking so much time into it.
Overall, I spent about 4 hours alone interviewing and applying for this position, not to mention preparing for the test, interviews, and the lengthy waiting time.
Would have rated negative, but the people were very nice.
