I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at TJ Maxx in Oct 2012
Interview
After filling out the application, I turned it into the manager on duty that same day. The manager was nice and interested, and went over my app right there during the first greet. She let me know that she would give it to the hiring manager and I should get a call back soon. About two weeks passed, and I didn't hear anything, so i decided to call and check on the status of my app. I ended up speaking to the store manager, who took the time to locate my app while I was on the phone with him and go over it with me. He let me know that some one would get in contact with me very soon. That same day, I was called by the first manager I greeted and turned my app into. She asked me if I were willing to come in for an interview the following day. I agreed. This led me to believe that if I hadn't called, I wouldn't have been asked for an interview at all.
The next day I went in for the interview and everything went smoothly. Since I had previously talked to the manager about my app, we were basically just chatting and getting to know each other from where we left off before. The interview lasted about an hour, and at the end, she let me know she would call my references and get back to me in a week. A week passed and I didn't hear anything from her. So after about two weeks, I called her and asked if she were still interested in working with me. She let me know that she was intending on getting back with me, and that same day, I got a call asking to come in for an orientation. Again, I felt like this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't called in.
At the orientation, me and a couple of other people were walked through the store and told about each department and how it's run. We were also put in a break room where we watched a few videos on the company and talked about the policies of our employment. We were supposed to take a test right after watching the tapes, but the computer was down so we weren't able to do that. Overall the orientation took about 4 hours and she let us know that she would call us back to let us know when we could get started with training. Based on my experience with them calling, we'll see if that happens.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Name a time when you were blamed for something you did not do and how did you handle it.

Interview
Interview process was super laid back. The manager and I basically just had a friendly conversation about myself and the company. Of course he also asked all the typical questions like when did you have a problem in previous jobs and how did you solve it. Asked if I would be available over holidays and how late or early I could come in.

Interview
I came in and filled out an application. I called a few times, but never heard anything. I went back to the store and one of the managers suggested I fill out another application, as the volume they had was very large. I filled out another one, then callled the Monday after. They offered me an interview later that day. I would say persistence is key with this company, I went in for the interview. The woman who encouraged me to fill out the application was actually the one who ended up interviewing me. I was offered the job about four days later.
