      Pros

      My business unit had good work life balance, enjoyable coworkers and a salary well matched with the amount of work I was asked to do.

      Cons

      The last several years, beginning with a $500m investment from Apollo Capital, have been layoff after layoff. I've seen a role offshored to a vendor that churned through 3 contractors in 9 months. I've seen the institutional knowledge of entire functional groups destroyed without regard to it's value. I've seen people, including myself, laid off by executives who never bothered to ask what we did or why it was important.

      Cons

      This company has a troubling pattern of ongoing layoffs. Leadership often announces that the cuts are over, only to initiate another round the following month. Or they say that layoffs are over and then immediately hire a new company to cut costs. While many roles have been shifted to India, a significant amount of the work remains in the U.S., largely because there's hesitation to rely on less experienced offshore teams. It's hard to understand Cengage's purpose beyond serving as a revenue engine for private equity interests. The constant instability raises serious questions about its long-term vision and integrity.
