Pros

Free gym membership during off-peak hours. Spa and Shop discount. Personal Training Discount. Flexible hours for actors and artists. Not enough money to live off. Possible promotion to full time jobs and careers.

Cons

Employee turnover is very frequent. Sexual harassment may occur from members and staff because of the culture. Dumb uniforms. Parking is always impossible and very expensive.

Pros

Learn how to become a better personal trainer (education fitness training institute) and learn how to program properly.

Cons

Where can I start? From the 60-75 hour weeks spent building a business the first few months Unfair percentage cuts (once you find out how much you get opposed to how much the gym gets, its difficult to stay motivated) Lack of pay- you only get paid 20 hours to work floor but you are constantly hounded to "stay at the gym and make your presence known". The fact that a bonus only comes with a price, it won't matter how hard you work, if you don't meet certain hours, you will never get a bonus. Management would not pay me for some meetings I would attend. Trust me, $8 adds up when you're getting paid so terribly. If you ask your managers for help, they give you "leads" which almost never amount in a client. I feel like I worked very hard for nothing, I was satisfied the first two months proving I could meet quota but after you graduate from "floor shift" you just become another trainer in the system. Goodluck having a healthy work life balance the first 3-5 months. Its nearly impossible if you want to excel.

Pros

If you love Equinox, are passionate about fitness and want to do develop as a salesperson this is a great gig.. Here are some of the pros I've observed in my past year with the company: -- Free membership -- 40% discount at the shop and spa -- Eclectic clientele base (you'll meet hundreds of people high-up in various industries.. excellent opportunity to network and build a referral business if you're on it) -- Good $ if you consistently hit your individual goal, if your club hits its goal and gets better as you bonus -- You'll build more self-confidence as a salesperson and will learn how to communicate more effectively across the board -- Good sales training experience when you're onboarded

Cons

Having made it over a year with Equinox, there are some serious drawbacks to being a Membership Advisor: -- Terrible base (the $ you make is entirely based on your own merit and if you're lucky enough to be at a good location).. In NYC, there are so many clubs in proximity to each other that you'll inevitably lose sales to other advisors -- No work/life balance (rarely get two days off in a row and your schedule will never be the same every month.. Very hard to be spontaneous and to find time with friends and family.. your life just essentially revolves around Equinox) -- Sales goals are very aggressive and only the best MA's who work around the clock will make bonus -- Sales refreshers held every month are more discouraging than anything.. Role playing is a great tool in small groups from my experience. However, when you're forced to try and sell someone in front of a large group and are scrutinized for everything you say/don't say it's just not effective. Having experienced advisors go through scenarios with small groups and talking it out in a smaller setting is more realistic and more applicable towards real-life scenarios in any sales setting. -- Outreach gets very repetitive
